Best Waterproof Cosmetics that I Have Ever Used

February 28th, 2009 No comments

Waterproof makeup applied well will last all day, even in the harshest conditions. Weather, perspiration, and of course water. If you want to wear water proof makeup, make sure you have a suitable special solvent for removal. Since your makeup will not come off easily with water. If you suffer from eyelid dermatitis you should not use waterproof makeup, because it will aggravate the eye and could make it worse. You should not use waterproof makeup for everyday use and only for special or rare occasions as it could potentially damage skin with excessive use. The makeup itself will not harm your skin that much except for moisture, it is the things you have to use to get it off that may cause some damage, like dryness, irritation, or redness. If you have sensitive skin it may not be the best thing for you.

I know there are a ton of products out there to try, but you never really know what they are like until you try them yourself.I have tried a lot of these products but not all of them worked as well as I would have hoped. But the ones that did are great.

The Number one waterproof mascara for me is by N.Y.C. It looks great and is really waterproof, it thickens your eye lashes and does not clump, and did I mention it was cheap. It cost $1.99 a tube, which you can’t beat.

As for foundation, I would suggest using a loose mineral product, they do not clog your pours, they look natural, and they wont make your skin oily. They are not really cheap, but they do the trick. All mineral foundations are naturally waterproof, so if your looking for a nice clean and natural look, that is the way to go.

There is also Dream Matte, it is not waterproof, but it works like waterproof. It stays put and does not run all over face, which could be really embarrassing.

Now if your looking for an all day, long lasting, waterproof lipstick, I would recommend LipSense. It really is a good all day wear lipstick, you can eat and drink with it and it will still be there. it is a bit higher then your regular lipstick at around $15.00 and up but well worth it. It will work for what you need it to.

How to Treat Dry, Rough Elbow Skin

February 28th, 2009 No comments

Do you suffer from dry, rough elbow skin? Rough elbows can be so pronounced that they take on the texture of sandpaper and may turn darker in color as the overlying skin becomes dehydrated and moisture deprived. This is a frustrating problem which can be difficult to correct with use of moisturizer alone. Rough elbow skin is a particular problem during the cold, dry months of winter when the humidity is low and the air is water deprived.

What causes rough elbows in the first place? The skin covering the elbows is thicker in texture to protect the underlying elbow bone from harm. This thicker skin is more susceptible to the type of dryness and moisture loss that occurs when the humidity drops. In addition, the elbows undergo a great deal of abuse during the day as you lean your elbows on all types of surfaces which can further contribute to the problem of rough elbows.

Treating rough elbows can be challenging due to the thickness of the skin found in the area. To treat dry, rough elbow skin, the first step is to exfoliate the area to remove dead, surface skin cells so moisturizer can better hydrate and soften the area. This can be done using an exfoliating body scrub that has natural particles designed to remove dead skin cells. The other option is to use a loofah with a moisturizing scrub. Stay away from any product that has alcohol in it since this can make rough elbows worse by further drying out the skin.

Once you’ve removed the dead skin cells from your rough elbows, follow up with an intensive moisturizer to rehydrate the skin in the area. One of the best moisturizers is also the least expensive, petroleum jelly. Other options include almond oil or olive oil which can be found at most grocery or health food stores. After applying your chosen moisturizer, wrap your elbows in fabric or plastic wrap to keep the moisturizer in contact with the area. You can also cut the foot off of a pair of socks and place the modified socks on your elbows overnight after generously applying moisturizer.

How to Tame Flyaway Hair

February 28th, 2009 No comments

As the temperatures drop and the air becomes dryer many people experience problems with flyaway hair. Sometimes flyaway becomes such a problem that it looks as if you’ve stuck your finger in a light socket. Don’t try to hide under a hat. Wearing a hat can make the problem even worse. As soon as the hat comes off, your hair again stands straight up. Understandably, this may not be the image you want to portray on a date or an important job interview.

What causes those annoying flyaways? Flyaway hair occurs when the hair strands pick up electrostatic charge from the atmosphere and repel one another in much the same way two ends of a magnet with the same charge repel each another. The problem is made worse by combing the hair excessively when can generate additional electrostatic charge, dry air and heat, and lack of moisture on the hair shaft. Although factors such as dry air and heat can’t always be avoided, there are steps you can take to tame flyaway hair. Here are some suggestions:

Add a humidifier to your home

The more moisture that’s present in the air in your home, the less chance that you’ll experience out of control, flyaway hair. A moist environment can also help keep your clothes from sticking together due to static, and even reduce the risk of contracting a cold by keeping your mucous membranes moist.

Brush your hair properly

Avoid the tendency to over brush or over comb you hair which will just make the static problem worse. Invest in a brush with static free bristles and use it regularly. These brushes can be purchased in most grocery stores or online.

Always condition your hair

A good conditioning treatment is critical for counteracting flyaway hair. Conditioner helps to eliminate electrostatic charge and tame pesky flyaways. Use a deep conditioner at least once a week to further reduce electrostatic charge.

Use the right type of hair dryer

The best kind of hairdryer to use for flyaway hair is an ionic ceramic hairdryer. This type of dryer is designed to remove static charge during the process of drying your hair. Use it on as low a heat as possible as over drying your hair will only make the flyaways worse.

Use Static Guard

Product Review: Laura Mercier Primer and Foundation

February 28th, 2009 No comments

Since moving to Los Angeles, I have found that my skin has become increasingly dry. I have tried everything — I’ve switched makeups, I’ve lathered on the moisturizer, I’ve bought different kinds of moisturizer, I’ve exfoliated, I’ve traded showers for baths and back again… And nothing works! It becomes particularly obnoxious when I have to put on make up; after all, when your skin is dry, makeup just sort of …cakes on. Gross! Recently, I switched make up products again in order to combat this issue.

A few weeks ago, I walked into Sephora (www.sephora.com) with the intent to buy. To buy foundation and, hopefully, some sort of magical cream that made my skin absolutely flawless. They didn’t have this cream, but they did suggest using a primer. At the recommendation of approximately every single employee at the store, I had them try Laura Mercier’s (http://www.lauramercier.com) primer and foundation. The very friendly staff member I spoke with explained that the Laura Mercier products tend to be light enough for everyday wear, but with enough of a moisturizing agent that they’ll fight this chronically dry skin of mine. So, she wiped off my old makeup and began applying the primer. No more than a tiny dot! That’s all it took to cover my entire face. And no more than three pumps of the foundation was good for my whole face, neck line and everything. I wound up buying the hydrating foundation primer and the moisturizing foundation (I do believe it’s oil free).

Unfortunately, that’s probably the best thing said about the Mercier products I bought. Oh, they’re no worse than anything else, but they’re not much better. They cost about the same as my old Aveda makeup, so I didn’t really lose out by switching — they just don’t really fix the problem I’ve had. Nor do they totally cover it up. That said, they do a moderately better job than Aveda (though, using that without primer may have been my error) so I may as well stick with it.

A Product Review of Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo: A Fantastic Bargain

February 28th, 2009 No comments

I love trying out different brands and types of shampoos. I recently spotted Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo at my local drug store and I was delighted by the very low price of this shampoo. I decided to purchase this hair care product and try it out! Here is what I discovered!

Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo is an attention getter, with it’s very low price. I purchased a large fifteen ounce bottle of this shampoo for a little over one dollar. That is fantastically low and this is a very budget friendly beauty product, in my opinion. Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo has a lot of advertising on the bottle. This shampoo seemed to have a lot going for it. It is supposed to add extra body to your hair, it has shine enhancing nutrients, it maximizes body and bounce and it has collagen in it. This product is not tested on animals and it comes in a recyclable bottle. Those are wonderful facts that I liked about this product.

Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Shampoo has a delightful scent that is very clean smelling and almost herbal. I really did like the fragrance of this shampoo. It just smells good. When I used this shampoo, I was more than pleased by the amount of lather that product produced. This shampoo cleaned my hair very well and I was satisfied with the results. However, after using this shampoo several times in a row, I noticed that it did have a tendency to dry my hair out a bit. I also noticed that if you have color treated hair, it will fade the color more than a shampoo normally should. That is my opinion and what I experienced. I decided to use this shampoo occasionally instead of for every day use. I like this product for the great savings and it is a great shampoo for me to keep on hand for use now and then. I think this shampoo cleans hair wonderfully and it leaves no residue in my hair.

A Product Review of Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Conditioner: With Vitamins and Collagen

February 28th, 2009 No comments

I like trying new and different brands and types of volumizing conditioners. When I saw Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Conditioner, I was very impressed by the low price of this hair conditioner. The bottle stated that it had vitamins, collagen and many healthy things for my hair in it. That all sounded good. I decided to purchase this product. Here is what I discovered!

Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Conditioner is very inexpensive! This product costs around one dollar or a little over for a very large fifteen ounce bottle of hair conditioner. The advertising for this products makes some wonderful statements. This conditioner has pro-vitamins, collagen, maximizes hair shine and body and makes hair up to two times stronger. Hey, I can always use stronger hair and that is a great selling point about this hair conditioner. This product was on sale at my local drug store and even when it is not, it is very budget friendly, in my opinion!

When I smelled Alberto VO5 Extra Body Volumizing Conditioner, I was delighted! This product smells great. It has a very clean and almost citrus scent that is very nice. It smells fresh and herbal. I loved it. This conditioner is thick and it coated my hair with ease. It rinsed well and I must admit that I was very impressed with the first performance of this product on my hair! It did indeed give my hair lots of body and shine. It also gave my hair more strength. This hair conditioner has five pro-vitamins in it, collagen and provides weightless conditioning. It volumizes and nourishes hair and these facts are all very true. It gave my hair lots of bounce and body. I loved it.

Can We Prevent Facial Skin Aging?

February 28th, 2009 No comments

Men and women have always strived to look good. Although most people are fortunate to have normal skin, there are many others who cannot count this among their blessings. These people suffer from oily, sensitive, dry, normal/combination or sun-damaged skin that requires extra care.

For many years, it was believed that genetics was the main cause of ageing skin. But new studies have shown that free-radical activity and environment factors cause greater damage to skin.

When the face is exposed to sunlight (photo-ageing) and air pollutants, it results in an increase in fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration and changes to skin texture. People who smoke also have more facial lines and wrinkles, and experience slow skin healing.

To see how sunlight accelerates skin ageing, just compare the skin under your upper arm with that on your face and the back of the hands – see the difference? In fact, sunlight has such a powerful detrimental effect that fair – skinned people who spend too much time outdoors are more prone to skin cancer.

Facial skin is very delicate, thus it requires more attention than the rest of the body. This is because the face has more oil glands – in the centre of the forehead, and near the eyes, nose and chin. The skin around the eyes is so thin that it contains no fatty tissue and is highly susceptible to wrinkles. This is why wrinkles and fine lines are found mostly around the eyes and mouth.

Collagen, which gives skin its structure and firmness, gradually breaks down as we age, leading to sagging skin and the formation of wrinkles. This process is usually slow, but when skin is exposed to sunlight, the deterioration of collagen is accelerated. Other factors that can cause fine lines and wrinkles are irregular thickening of the dermis (the layer after the epidermis) and a decrease in the moisture content of the epidermis.

How to Protect Yourself from These Skin Diseases

February 28th, 2009 No comments

It has been seen that most of the people suffer with some or the other skin problems in their lifetime. But, most of them try to hide their skin problems from the rest of the world as it is embarrassing. But, they cause discomfort to you and should be treated as soon as possible to avoid any discomforts. Two of the most common skin disorders are the Acne and the Eczema.

Teenagers are the most common victim to acne. But, even adults suffer from acne. It is believed that nearly one out of every four adults suffers from acne in some point or the other during his lifetime. Though it is so common, the reason for the outbreak of this disease is not known to all.

The most common reasons for the outbreaks of acne are hormones, stress, medications as well as being unhygienic. It is generally believed that acne is caused only to the people who are not clean or the people who eat too much of fat. But, this is not true. Acne is caused due to one or more of the above four reasons.

The main reason for the outbreak of your acne problem is that oil gets trapped in the pores below the surface of your skin. This results in the formation of bacteria below the skin. They start multiplying at a very fast rate. The bacterium starts to get huge in numbers. The white blood cells gather below the skin in order to fight the bacteria. This results in irritation around the area where the pimples develop.

First of all, clean your skin at least two times in a day. Do not use harsh cleansers that contain acids to clean your skin as it will only add to the irritation of your skin.

Eczema is one of the other major skin problems apart from acne that we will talk about in this article. Eczema usually starts to appear as a dry area of skin which is red and irritates your skin.

Eczema is a condition that happens due to heredity but there are other things out there in the market such as the colognes, perfumes, detergents, soaps, household chemicals, etc. that result in eczema. And yes, stress is also one of the major problems that trigger eczema symptoms.

How to Rid Yourself of Age Spots

February 28th, 2009 No comments

For years you’ve looked in the mirror and marveled at how good your skin looks (or not). Then one day the inevitable happens. You see these darkened blotches of skin pop up on your face and on the back of your hands. Immediately the question jumps into your mind: “Are these age spots?”

This just might be the case. Age spots are usually genetic so if you see a member of your family with age spots, chances are you might have them too. But that doesn’t mean that you’re disqualified if your family doesn’t have a history of them. Although no one knows the exact causes of age spots, there are ways treat them and, in the case of those who get too much sun, ways that you can try and prevent them.

If you want to prevent age spots, the key ingredient is sun protection. Sun damage is probably the number one cause of our pigment cells going out of whack. This change in our pigment cells is what most dermatologist attribute to age spots. To prevent this, you should try and keep the sun off your skin as much as possible. When out in the sun, where hats with good covering, invest in a quality sun screen (SPF 30 on a daily basis) and where shades that block UV rays.

If you’re looking to remedy age spots, then one of the leading ways to do this is microdermabrasion. Microdermabrasion is the act of rubbing the skin with fine crystals. This is accomplished either on the tip of a pen sized wand or by blowing a treated steam that is then suctioned off the skin. This treatment removes the dead cells of the skin’s outer layer where the discolored cells reside. It also will stimulate new cell growth, new collagen growth, increase blood flow and reduce fine wrinkles along with the deep cleaning of blackheads.

If you’re looking for a longer lasting remedy, then you may want to look at a light-based treatment. Light therapy operates below the skin and operate on the cells that produce melanin. Age spots occur when these cells product too much melanin. Light therapy actually destroys these cells by converting to heat energy. This energy then destroys the cells.

Top Three Razors for Sensitive Skin

February 28th, 2009 No comments

I was born with a gift and a curse. I have extremely soft skin. It is great because it feels nice to me, and wins lots of compliments. It is terrible because it reacts to everything that comes into close proximity. Therefore, finding a razor that didn’t leave me feeling uncomfortable for days was no easy task. Ladies and gentlemen with sensitive skin, I have done the footwork for you. I have tried the women’s razors, the men’s razors, the cheap razors, the expensive razors, the disposable kind and the so called eternal ones, too. I have cut, nicked and irritated for years. I am now smooth as a baby’s behind and ready to share my wisdom with the world. Here are my picks for the top three razors for sensitive skin:

Schick Quattro Titanium. One semester, this Shick razor (designed for men) was given out at my college bookstore as a promotional item. I never think anything free is good, so I abandoned it lying around in my room for quite some time. When I eventually used it, I was more than impressed. The titanium razor got a closer shave than any other razor I had ever used. Because my skin immediately felt so smooth, I didn’t have to “go over” the entire area with the razor again, leaving no room for skin irritation. The razor swiveled around my curves leaving no nicks on my knees and ankles. My legs remained feeling smooth and comfortable for two days, and I continue to use the Schick Quattro Titanium today.

Gillette Venus Devine. This is an ultra feminine razor is designed specifically for those of us with sensitive skin. Featuring aloe coated blades and plant oil infused moisture strips, the Venus Divine is guaranteed to leave your skin silky. The razor glides over your skin effortlessly, never scratching or cutting. I used this razor religiously for at least half a year and experienced almost no razor burn or skin irritations.
