People who nudge shit me
I'm sorry but I am over being nudged.
I very clearly request games that say – 'I will play for 30 minutes and then on and off until we finish".
Then like all of you I have to deal with the frusration of someone playing one move and then buggering off. Which annoys me but I don't take it out on them. However when those same people nudge me because I haven't played for a couple of days I just find it extremly annoying. It actually makes me want to play one move a week….
So I think the nudge button has the opp of the intended effect, of course you know you have a move to play, you just haven't been online to play it. (I can't bring myself to my scrabble at work!)
Thanks for reading my rant : )
Rant away!
I agree, I find it very annoying. It's not really as though it's a particular problem if someone's a little slower than you are, is it? Especially as most people play more than one game at the same time.
Mind you, one of my opponents hasn't made a move since before Xmas. I think his computer may have broken…
I think people forget that we're all in different time zones as well.
If someone hasn't made a move I"ll give them a couple of weeks. Whats also frustrating (and this doesn't happen a lot because I"m not very good) is when you're winning and the other person stops playing, so you force win buts its just not the same
Yeah to be fair the people I'm most patient with are my friends, it's one thing to force win a stranger, it's completly different to have a friend glowering (sp?) at you over the photocopier the next day.
I would rather someone forced a win then nudged me though, I was so excited when I logged in to see messages waiting, only to find out they were mostly just from impatient people : (
Funny Pam – the Big Finish, lol….
Yes, and also like sex your stats don't go up. Darn.
Yeah some people are just really really slow, and you know they've been on facebook, they just haven't bothered to play a move, multiple player games are the worst, they take forever because you're all rarely online at the same time.
The warm glow of a moral victory? Nah, I never bought that moral victory shit…
hmmmm
After my little rant this morning I couldn't really justify nudgeing a facebook friend who hadn't played in two weeks (who was usually more reliable).
So I went to his wall to give him a hurry up (far more civilised) and discovered that he had died : (
Now that is a legimate reason for not making a move for two weeks.
RIP Mike
OMG that's awful!
Yeah it's so sad seeing all the wall posts from his friends
Sorry to hear about that. Kind of puts nudging in perspective.
Good call Susan
I would nudge you after 2 days without playing, unless you had given me warning that "on and off until we finish" meant days. To me, it would mean throughout the day, or maybe the next day, because I play FAST or MODERATE games. If you hadn't played after 7 days, I'd nudge again, and then go ahead and force the win to get the game off my page.
Sorry about your friend.
Nice point Beverlee, I guess I always want to play fast games – eg. finish while we are online, and invariably the person dissappears on me. Maybe I need a clause afterwards saying if you run away then you'll have to put up with me only playing in the evenings I'm not at uni, easten standard time for AUSTRALIA
OK, I get your point now – it's not you that disappears, it's your opponents. Then I reverse my opinion and agree with you. If a person disappears on our "fast" game (which is what I always host or join, although omigawd, how many are actually fast?! I'm afraid to host a "moderate" game for fear it takes months, but I digress) they probably should check in at roughly the same time another day, but will in any case be totally at my mercy.
I think this is one of the best Facebook Discussion threads I've ever seen. Some nice discussion, mildly vlugar sexual humour, the irony of someone called Forssman commenting on a page about 'forced' wins, a dramatic and tragic death in the middle (condolences), and of course, one of the best srunames I've ever heard – Orr-Shadbolt.
Well done everyone.
OMG… Are you serious? That's terrible.
I don't bother nudging people, if they can't be bothered or haven't got time that's not really my problem. However, if they're dead, that's another matter all together.
Oh my what happens to inactive games – will they just stay there ad infinitum?
I don't know Hardcore, I'm never one to leave them there to be honest.
After 3 months you can safely assume your opponent has died. You should delete the game and send a condolence message to all their friends.
I'd wondered the same thing.
I have 4 inactive games at the moment. One I know is just avoiding me as she is about to lose and I have only 1 letter to play and a 200 point lead. But I'm enjoying leaving it there as a reminder that I'm not going away any time soon :)
I have an inactive game that has been sitting here for a couple months…I can't delete or force a win…so it is just sitting there! She is winning by a long-shot but won't play her turn….so what do I do, I've nudged her a couple times…..maybe she is dead too?
I agree with the negative perception of nudging…but wouldn't it be really nicer if a person plans to be offline for a bit to just say so in a little chat messge….at least the other player will know….
They should call it 'punch in the back of the neck'.
I prefer to see nudges as gentle carresses and a nibble.
If I'm playing with a RL friend I''' message them with something subtle like 'Make a fucking move!'
I've never seen the verb To Shit used this way!
That's because you're not an Aussie.
The use of "shit" to mean "piss off" is very common here. So you could say,
"It shits me when I can't lay my bingo."
If you had a bingo to lay.
Which I never do.
Sob.
Thanks Kerry – funny how we use "piss" and "shit" for the same general meaning, neither of which is connected to the lavatory!
