This is the definitive thread for The Official (Unofficial) Scrabulous Championships.

THE OFFICIAL SCRABULOUS CHAMPIONSHIPS: RULES
This contains the basic rules for the tournament.
Finally, the two threads on which most players signed up initially:
THE OFFICIAL SCRABULOUS CHAMPIONSHIPS – Sign up by 5pm GMT, Saturday 15th December
&
THE OFFICIAL SCRABULOUS CHAMPIONSHIPS: UPDATE – Starts at 3pm GMT, Friday 14th December. Entries close at 11am GMT.

Please read the rules, then check the draw. If anyone doesn't understand the draw, message me and I'll explain. It is basically the same as your typical sporting draw. Those with a bye in the first round play their first match in the second round.
At the end of the first round I will post a second round draw.
The first named player in each match makes the first move.
Please look through related threads to find your first round opponent, contact them and start your match. If anyone has problems contacting an opponent, message me. (Please look thoroughly though before you resort to this.)
The deadlines for matches to be complete in the first two rounds are as follows:
Round 1 – Sunday, 16th December at 6pm, GMT
Round 2 – Wednesday, 20th December at 6m GMT
We'll see how the first two rounds go before deciding on deadlines for the remainder of the tournament.
Once you've started your matches, please message me to let me know.
Have I left anything out?
Seems to be very clear and I think giving that extra day for round 2 made sense as people are back at work and it's not always easy to play (plus I am moving!).
Good luck!
Looks clear to me!
I just had a thought. If, for whatever reason, a round one game goes past the deadline, would it be a good idea for it to be allowed to continue until it ends and then the next one starts, but if that one then reaches deadline the person who was ready on time gets the win?
The only problem would be the person who was ready all along could string the game along to get the win…
I think there should be a buffer zone in each game, for unforseen circumstances and all that.
However it looks like the aim is to have the 2nd round completed by 6pm GMT , then as long as that target is reached then all should be OK I think.
I just think we have to have strict deadlines or this could drag on for months. With 100 competitors it is likely that someone will be bogged down with work, someone else will have personal problems and someone else's connection will pack it in. Can we realistically wait for all of them? Maybe when we get to the last 32 we can cut people more slack.
How exciting I sent a message to my match-up… raring to go
Did you get your game going yet, Gayle?
it's a game, forget the slack… if this was in person, some would bow out because of personal reasons. as you said, there are 100 people… we are numbers. treat us as such. if someone doesn't like the rules let them bow out before the first move and save their precious ratings… (if that is the problem)… we all have personal lives. i could fill the website with my own personal problems, but i am willing to play. this is not a Woody Allen movie for go' sakes. its just a bloody game.
Only me! Are people posting the games once they have played for all to see if we desire to look?
No… no reply yet
Who is challenging who?
I have played Dennis before do you want his challenge.
I'm also waiting. I just wanna play although I think I'm committing Scrabulous hybris by joining the championships.
hybris, good word Nicola! Gonna use that sometime! What are we supposed to do if our opponent doesn't reply? I messaged mine more than 2 hours ago. Guess I'll wait and see.
Thanks, Andy for sending Dennis' game link… at least it is now started! Woo hoo
One thing we did do with the other tourny I'm in is we started our own group.
It made things easier from a posting perspective – we could post our own threads and not worry about clogging up this board. And the moderator (in this case, Sonam) could message all of the members quite easily as well.
You'd have to start it as a private group & invite everyone. I'd be happy to help should you need help.
Great idea! Post any link to the group here and we can all join ourselves. Does it have to be a private group? Oh, and Diane and I started our game;-)
You confusing me by swapping threads!
You can still pull it back, I have the faith and it's not DILUTED.
Oooh….I am on the edge of my seat. Not good in the short skirt I am wearing.
You focus on your own vowel movements.
Wine in hand or sober playing?
So close, Eli! Well done, girl.
Your turn with the pom poms now.
Not that this is likely, but what happens in case of a draw?
