Is Jacks Dad dead
At the end of the third season he said to the woman at the pharmacy his father had prescriped him with some kind of medication to help him with his depression and also in that episode in the flashforward when he gets rage in the hospital he says to dr. hamil get my father down here?…but isnt his father dead or is he just losing his marbles?
Christian is definitely dead. Jack lied to the pharmacist, his dad didn't really sign for that medication, Jack just forged his signature. That's why he wouldn't let the woman call his father's office.
When he was yelling at Dr. Hamil (note that Dr. Hamil is the Chief of Surgery, ie Christian's old job) he was hopped up on drugs, and in a suicidal state of mind. Basically yes, he was losing his marbles. It was just a poorly chosen turn of phrase on Jack's part.
However, it was a very well chosen turn of phrase on the part of the writers. Every time Jack mentioned his father, it made the viewer more certain that this was a flashback. This made the surprise even more dramatic when it was revealed to be a flash-forward.
have you seen this?

i think it proves that he's still alive and behind the whole thing somehow.
No, he's dead. In fact, the producer's confirmed on the 21st that he is "undead"…in other words: a ghost or reanimation like the others we've seen.
They have been telling the public that he's dead since the first season.
i do have a feeling that he is not dead toooooooooo
"undead" just just simply mean "not dead" tho
no, i'm sticking to my thoughts that he's still alive….i think he's somehow playing a major part in the whole thing….we just dont realise it yet!
MWAH HA HAAAAAA
:)
No. Undead means he used to be dead. Now he's up and around. If they wanted to say he was alive, they would have said that. But they made a distinction.
His father didn't prescribe anything, certainly not for depression. Jack was taking pain killers, and they are not exactly effective when fighting depression.
And to the second point, yes, he was losing his marbles thanks to the drugs he was on at the time of his conversation with Dr. Hamill. Notice that even if Christian were alive, he would not be chief of surgery anymore, or even be a doctor at all, since he lost his license to practice after he killed that woman on the operating table while he was drunk.
How does it do that? If anything it only suggests that he's dead even stronger than before. For example, how exactly did Vincent understand the command Christian gave him? I don't know any dogs that understand commands the way Christian gave them to Vincent.
No, it can't. If he were alive, he would be listed as alive, not in a category with someone who's obviously dead like Yemi(also confirmed as undead).
What major part do you think he's playing, and what evidence do you have to support this belief?
so you have actually spoken with the producers on this have you?….All i have been doing is watching the show…perhaps john you need to start watching the show instead of listening to rumours
I never listen to rumours. I listen to the writers' own comments. Which part of my comments did you not believe?
The writers have confirmed his death twice. Perhaps you should do a little research before you go insulting another posters intelligence.
I am sorry i have a life i dont have time to research it in depth
OK, there is alot of talk on this board about dead people, not being dead, and I to hope that some of the characters are in fact not dead.
The show allows us to 'hold on' to our favourite characters by letting them appear in dreams, flashforwards and flashbacks (Charlie, Libby, Boon etc.. (not that libby was a favourite)) – which to some extent means that those that have died could well come back to answer some of the unexplained questions (i.e. Libby at Hurley's mental ward, Libby giving Desmond the boat).
So in that sense, I don't think we've seen the last of Charlie, Libby or Jacks dad at all.
Plus also, there is always the point that the show can rely on the mystery of the island to explain just about anything they want – if they can magic up Lockes dad into a room, I'm pretty sure they can bring anyone to the island whether they are from the 'real world' or whether they have already died!
Jacks dad will be back for sure, they have just made him so mysterious (in Jacobs hut?!?!?) that they really need to expand on his relevance even if it is just an appirition. (why would Locke see Jack's dad, he doesn't know him)
And sorry to be slightly off topic, but we don't know if Charlie really is dead, because he could have swam out of the porthole that Mikheil exploded. I know some people just want an end to the Charlie dead or alive story, but they have paid so little attention to Charlie dying it would seem that its overdue that somebody would at least mention him – and yes I realise they have alot to fit in this season with the reduced amount of episodes, but they certainly have enough time to show Jin buying Pandas!
It's really too bad some people feel the need to get all upset when others try to help them out with their questions.
I absolutely agree with you Daniel. Part of the brilliance of this show is the devices by which we can see some of our favorite characters return to the spotlight.
I've always said we would see a lot more of Christian in the coming seasons, but he does not need to be alive to have an influence.
And I hate to end a positive post with some corrections, but I know that I would want someone to correct me so… There isn't really a 'magic box', Ben told Locke later that it was just a metaphor. And Charlie's also dead for sure, but since this is a thread about Christian, I'll gladly discuss this with you elsewhere, just to keep things on track :)
"Christian is definitely dead. Jack lied to the pharmacist, his dad didn't really sign for that medication, Jack just forged his signature. That's why he wouldn't let the woman call his father's office."
Close to two years had passed since Christian's death. I don't care how fucked up on meds Jack is he wouldn't be stupid enough to try and pass off a prescription written by a man dead for two years. It was fake but the paper wasn't. He just didn't want his father to know he turned out just like him.
"When he was yelling at Dr. Hamil (note that Dr. Hamil is the Chief of Surgery, ie Christian's old job) he was hopped up on drugs, and in a suicidal state of mind. Basically yes, he was losing his marbles. It was just a poorly chosen turn of phrase on Jack's part."
He is the NEW chief of surgery, almost two years later. Christian lost his job what, six months to a a year before the crash? So about three years had passed. It's not even guaranteed he would know who Christian was (he was new to the hospital) having been dead for three years.
"However, it was a very well chosen turn of phrase on the part of the writers. Every time Jack mentioned his father, it made the viewer more certain that this was a flashback. This made the surprise even more dramatic when it was revealed to be a flash-forward."
I was convinced it was not a flashback by Jack's cell phone. A model that came out about 20 months after the plane crash, when he calls Kate. This why I felt Christian was alive
Jack is obviously desperate to get those meds and he's not going to get them from any competent doctor. How else do you propose he get them?
I don't get what your point is for this second paragraph.
Well then you noticed one of the hints that the writers intentionally included. Just because you noticed it was in the future doesn't prove anything.
Just the time passage and how fucking stupid Jack is for trying to pass of a prescription written by a man who'd been dead for close to three years. I've seen people on more of those pills than Jack was, a lot more, and some of them found ways to get 200 of them a month for simply a couple of dimes because of a health plan.
Jack must be retarded then.
It would have taken a matter of minutes. If you're too busy to do research, you're too busy to come up with a decent theory.
Indeed it is. Everyone seems to take being corrected so personally, and I don't understand. Maybe some people never had the opportunity to have their work critiqued before.
It doesn't matter what kind of health plan you have. If you want pain killers like those, you need a doctor's prescription. Jack can't prescribe to himself so the next easiest thing was probably to swipe one of his old man's prescription pads. The woman at the pharmacy wouldn't know Christian and wouldn't know that he's dead unless she called his office, which Jack conveniently prevented.
Jack forged the prescription himself. How would the pharmacist know any different? She obviously isn't on a first name basis with Christian.
Very good, Christian lost his job, and he also lost his ability to practice medicne once his medical license was revoked. So why would he be at the hospital, even if he were alive? And where did you get the impression that Dr. Hamill had just started? I don't recall any mention of when exactly he started this job.
He wast he new chief of surgery. Dr. Hamill even says 'look, I know I'm new around here' or something along those lines.
what do you think my friend had? a doctors fucking prescription. You're telling me that in the lifetime of knowing doctors Jack doesn't know a semi-crooked on that would flip him a script? He's in Los fucking Angelas for christ sake.
The woman would put in doctors name and see DECEASED immediately. As a doctor, jack would know the pharmacutical proceedures I'm sure. All prescriptions must be processed properly. It makes Jack very stupid.
Compared to Jack and Christian, he would be. He didn't say "I just started last week" did he? I've been at my job for 10 months, but I'm still new compared to people who have been there for 5 years or more.
After he turned his father in, do you think any crooked Doctors are going to write him a scrip?
You really need to calm down.
Let's assume Christian is still alive in the future as you suggest…
Now I'm not a pharmacist but I would imagine that if there *was* such a computer system as you describe, then the woman would put in the doctor's name and see LICENSE REVOKED immediately. Your suggestion of a living Christian encounters the exact same problems when it comes to the prescription.
Since Jack clearly got away with it at least once, it appears that there is no such "immediate feedback" system in place (at least not in this particular pharmacy).
