I concur. There's a lot of envirnoment up there and drilling into it won't bring the apocolypse. (Just lower gas prices, which right now I'm thinking would be a sign of the apocolypse judging by the poor prospects of that happening.)

There isn't enough oil Alaska to make any major difference. If we used Alaska as our only source of fuel, we would be out before the year was over. Exploiting new oil reserves is not the answer because that will only push back peak oil by a couple of years, finding alternatives and driving smaller vehicles will bring fuel prices down.

We are already drilling alaska and we are hording it all. Most of the US's oil is from outside of the country. Why? So when everyone else runs out we will be the only ones left with oil and the new world power. Havent you heard about the battle over the baren wastelands in greenland and the north pole. There's a huge reserve of frozen oil there and even though we don't have the technology to harvest it yet countries are already fighting over who rightfully claimed the terriotry. Even if we tap these reserves oil is estimated to run out in about 40 years at which point our entire society will revert back to midevil famine, plague, and devistation. I joined this group because I looked at the profile pic which I assumed would be the soultion to increasing gas prices–mass scuicide by the general population. This boycot is a pathetic solution. Instead of seeing the real problem all you see is money, just as a self absorbed consumer society should. Don't worry keep living the way you do and in about 40 years you and your childern can burn in the hellish WWIII that will be our oilless existance.

the problem isnt crude oil, we have plenty of that. the problem is refining it. so drilling isnt gonna help refine oil there needs to be more refineries

My family loves me very much, that's why they found it important that I recieve an education to gain awareness and understanding of the world around me. I am sorry my intellectual sarcasm is sometimes to much for people to handle. If you still don't believe me you can read our government's energy reports. And that whole famine part isn't a complete exageration either; we are already at our maxium food production rate, but yet the world population keeps increasing, our oil for it's production is becoming more scarce, and our water sheds are running dry. What do you think will happen? Some day your beer will be gone and then what?

the truth is war over fresh water will cause world war 3 long before oil does. But it's not that this group is a bad idea it's just a temporary solution. Just like drilling in Alaska. Alaska shou;d be kept as a reserve incase it takes too long develope alternatives. However that should only be an issue if the oil companies continue to stop alternative reasearch. Because of the oil companies hybrids didn't enter wide distribution years after they would have other wise

and also, we may be at our maximum food production, but we also export a lot of food, i'll get slightly worried once we have to stop exporting food, but for now, trust me, it will be a long time until america has to go on a diet

Not that I don't like that we as a nation are trying to do something but yeah if we don't by their gas all we do is play to Exxon and Mobile's rivals. Keep on trying stuff and we'll find out what works and then prices will go down, or think about it for a long time and then implement a plan of action and prices will go down. Either way gas prices go down so just keep working on it and to everyone who has ridiculed this group, keep your opinions to yourself unless you have a better idea because you aren't helping anyone by trying to prevent people from trying to do something that benefits us all. Oh and yes America produces so much more food that we pay people not to farm (which I'm sure most if not all of us know) and we won't run out anytime in the near future. And if you want to really get down to the problems of the US, 1/3 of our power supply is used to refine Aluminum metal and steel… oh and only about 3/4 of the nation can afford health insurance (not including illegal immigrants) but those are for after the gas issue.

Look at some obesity numbers in america, It's high time to go on a diet lol, but what you said is true. Sooner or later the oil will be gone, and by then research for alternatives will halt. What america should be focusing on is alternative means before it runs out. Then we wont have to "lead the fight for oil in WWIII."
