Just a though

America doesn't even have 300 million people

… you are kidding right? Please tell me you are kidding and are not actually that… umm how should I put this, uneducated.

Please tell me YOU'RE kidding and that's not actually your real name. And uh, sorry if I don't check the census everyday. If you think you can convince 99.9% of the country to not buy mobil or exxon, more power to you. You're obviously…ummm, how should I put this…a retard

hahahaha, that was great

At least I know how many people are in our country. I have actually said I don't think this will necessarily work (in fact it won't) I just wish that gas prices would go down. It is my actual name just so you know, have fun with trying to make fun of that in a new way that I haven't already heard… (It doesn't bother me, I make penis jokes all the time anyway.) By the way you don't have to check the census everyday… in fact they are only released every 10 years, come on man. Now go study and stop making fun of people and posting useless posts with incorrect facts.

no this really wont work.. it'll just drive up prices of smaller gas companies. dumbasses.

U know what Woody (lol) you're right. But don't brag about knowing how many ppl are in our country, have a name like Woody, tell me when the census is released, and then tell me to study….and expect not to make fun of u!…if my post is so useless….DONT REPLY, U PENIS!

now that comment was retarded how would boycotting the largest oil company out there drive smaller gas companies prices up?

take economics. theres a constant demand curve for oil, since we use it every day. by boycotting the major company, it doesnt change how much oil youre still going to use, since the plan doesnt involve driving less. since the overall quantity consumed is the same, you need more gas from the other companies– driving up demand… raising prices… yeah… retarded?

http://www.search.com/reference/Supply_and_demand

increase quantity = increase demand = increase prices.
now i'll wait for a come back.

Haha good one, I never thought my name was a synonym for penis! Haha that is funny, good job. Seriously go learn and stop being a dick (Isn't that ironic?)

Evan, what the hell is : \"just a though\"?

yeah but one company is losing money there fore they will change their prices to be lower especially when they are making 300% profit on each gallon of gas sold, instead of the demand being spread out and driving prices up you use the demand and focus it to lower the prices and cause competition, competition is the counter to high demand or maybe you missed that part of your class

No seriously. Evan. Leearn two TyPie.
Also this guy who just posted is right.

no, idiot. it doesnt matter what an individual company charges. even though this boycott will not even happen, if it did it would just push a smaller company into the shoes of exxon. you dont "focus" demand, there is a demand for gas set by the price that gas is sold at and how much people need. and competition wouldnt lower it… smaller gas companies would get more business and thus raise their prices to maximize profit, evening everything out. youre wrong, just stop wasting my time with your posts.

In Evans defense, assuming he means the USA when he says America, there arent 300 million that could actively help this group since there arent 300million driving Americans in the USA. thats alls. I remember reading a few years ago (1-3) that we just had our 300th million legitimate american person born, so it couldent have changed that much…

i think this is the 3rd time is saw "300% profit" used on this site…

Companies are out to make profit. You guys should probably read up on how much profit apple makes on one of your precious Ipods. 300% isnt rediculous.

Also considering its about 2.80$ per gallons and its 77 dollars per barrel and a barrel has 31 gallons. that means at the price we are paying, its about 87 per barrel instead of 77. that means its 2.48$ for a gallon from barrel prices… where the fuck is the profit…

good point.

another thought:

the idea presented in this facebook group won't work. shifting money to other oil companies in an attempt to hurt the "top two" will only give more profits to the other companies. consequently, they can afford to keep their prices high, even if the "top two" are forced to lower them.

also, that would be removing competitors from the market (if the plan actually worked), raising prices in the long run.

So I miss a "T" and now I can't type? Hmm. A comment that asinine suggested that I see how old you are. Ah…you're in high school. This is why facebook was made for college students. So immature 15-year-olds like you don't get to bother intelligent college students like me. Go play Pokemon or something, kid.

I agree with both Mike and Jason. It all depends on who makes moves first. Power players at Exxon-Mobil could definitely decide to lower prices on their fuel. But they won't do it without making a comprehensive evaluation on the state of the market. What if other gas companies decide to up their prices before Exxon-Mobil identifies a market trend and makes a calculated decision?

american gas companies if you payed attention to my earlier post and a friend i have that works at texaco has told me it only cost them $.89 a gallon after refining for regular unleaded gas so yeah when they are selling it at $2.79 i would say its a bit much

yeah dumbass- prices arent just reflections of the exact cost it takes to make a good. think of the people that are employed to refine the oil, ship it, sell it, manage it. they have salaries. there are more costs in a business than just producing the good. and even after raising prices to meet those costs, why stop at breaking even? whats the incentive to get in the business and not make money, especially when people demand gas enough to pay more than the breaking even price. think a little more.
