so ive been party of this group for a while and just now read what it had to say and realized who ever wrote this is a total retard. by not buying from either exxon or mobile you would pretty much not be buying from the 2 only american owned oil companies less. this in turn would add to how fucked up our economy is, b/c you would be sending our money to another country rather than helping out your fellow americans.
so maybe you should think about other thing that would be affected by your actions before you decide to do something stupid

besides, your reasoning is off. this idea won't work because we don't know how much oil there is left in the world. its a LIMITED RESOURCE. they can't lower their prices to $1.50 or however low you want them to go, because eventually the oil will run out and then they'll be out of money. the more money they make now the more money they spend on looking for alternative sources of fuel for them to dominate in the future.
yeah gas prices suck. at the same time, instead of complaining and starting facebook groups that really dont change much, spend your energy trying to come up with better solutions. using public transportation for example. if you really need to use a car, try a carpool.

I agree partially, because this wasnt going to work anyway because just because the station is Shell* doesn't mean that they sell Shell* gas. They are allowed to sell whatever gas is the cheapest for them to sell because of location.
But besides that fact there is a tech that is coming out that a bug w/ a bacteria can create/ excrete oil which can be used and they think that they can make it for $50 a barrel. This project is centered in the US, so it would help our economy at the same time as lowering gas to about 1.35 while cutting our supply lines from foreign ( Saudi Arabian) oil.

i agree oil is def a limited resource and it could eventually run out but truthfully i dont believe that those 3rd world countries that are selling it to us care much about that…i believe they are so poor that they are doing w/e they can to survive and help their economy and if that means putting crazy prices on something that everyone wants so be it b/c that is def amazing business skills right there…it would be smart for america to find alternative fuel just to help our economy and b/c of how much we spend on oil…but by car pooling such as your saying will help our economy a little just b/c well spend less on oil and have more money in our pockets, but it will not make the price go down by very much unless everyone in the world starts to do this and that is quite unlikely to happen….so the demand will still be out there and that means the price can be set to w/e they feel like setting it at that day

Ok, the gas prices are not high because we are running out of oil. That is a bullshit excuse to raise the prices so traders and get rich. Yea, one day we will run out of oil, but it will not be for a very very long time. On top of that, hydrogen powered cars are going to be start being pushed out onto the market within the next ten years, and it will not take that long for them to catch. Eventually we will not be using near as much oil for gas as we are. Also, if anybody other than the buyers of gas (us) actually did care about how much gas was they would simply drill other places which we are not drilling. We haven plenty of them. Oil is a current major EXPORT for the US to other countries, so we are drilling here. But because we can make more mony exporting it than using it here, we dont give a shit about the american people that are complaining about the gas prices. I am afraid that our only choice is to wait this out, and eventually, like everything else, theeconomy will go back up and gas or water or whatever we are using at the time, will go back down.
Oh, and one more thing, if people in this country actually care about things, maybe they should start voting. Considering that we have less than 50% of the nation voting, most Americans can shut their mouths.

Yeah they are not high because of the "we are running out" scare. I heard something on the radio news that like Exxon repots an 87,000, 87,000 dollar profit EVERY MINUTE. Something needs to change because basically we are in a modern day depression. I live in a ski resort, high tourist visitation area, and gas prices here are nearing 4 dollars a gallon. In a town not far from me, Vail Colorado, gas prices are at like 4.19 per gallon. And there is no WAITING IT OUT. What are you fucking retarded? What makes you think that Big Oil Companies would just one day be like " even though we are making 87 BILLION dollars every 6 months in profit, we are gonna lower gas prices." The Fact is that they are making BANK, and think about it, if you were making that much profit, and people kept buying your product even though the price of it was sending everyone into debt, would you really want to lower the price of that product? I don't have a solution to the Gas Prices, maybe we need Government interference, but if someone told me in a year we are going to re-live the Great Depression, I would believe them.
Ok..buddy..the government is the one allowing the exports, the goverment is not going to stop that or the profit that the gas company is getting because the government profits from it too. By wait it out, I meant that we will have to wait for the ECONOMY to rise again. That is up to the government and we cannot do anything about it. So yes, wait it out is our only option.

I dont have a solution to this problem. But maybe the Government can put major taxes on the oil companies profits, and then give it back to the people in tax breaks. Ok..dumb shit…put it together. Taxes, they go to the government. There are ALOT of taxes on exported oil. Therefore the government get money from the companies exporting oil. That is how they get the damn money. And Gas will go down if the value of the dollar goes up. It is how things work. They do not have a monopoly so they cannot keep the gas prices up so high

If you want to combat oil prices…..invest in other energy sources and those will in return reduce in price as DEMAND increases.

ok guys the oil companies are def a monopoly and they are so powerful that the gov already tried to stop them by splitting up standard oil, but they still control a major part of our economy and as long as they are making money the prices will be high…i would not expect the price of oil to go down until there is no more demand for it which is going to take a while…and you talk about alternative resources like everyone is going to actually do that but the fact is everyone is to lazy to make it themselves (ive made it before and it was extremely easy) but b/c everyone is to lazy to do it they are going to wait until someone mass produces it then that person will be just like the our oil companies unless we come up with more than one type of alternative fuel…when the worth of the dollar goes up i am almost certain the price of oil will go up with it (JUST B/C THEY CAN) and the cold hard fact is we will buy it just like we do now
